Apalachia is the third Twilight Dimension. It is characterized by its purple hue, large land masses, forests, and tall mountains.

Accessing[]

To access Apalachia, the player must construct an Apalachia Portal in any dimension. To create the portal, the player must first build a rectangular frame using Wildwood Blocks, ranging in size from a minimum of 4x5 to a maximum of 23x23. Once the frame is built, it is activated by right-clicking it with a Twilight Clock.

The portal allows most entities, with some exceptions[more information needed], to be transported to a corresponding point in Apalachia. Travel through the portal is instant in any gamemode. If there is no corresponding portal, a new 4×5 portal is created. The portal can be destroyed by breaking the Wildwood Block frame, by a nearby explosion, or by placing water or lava into it with a dispenser.

Traits[]

Terrain generates in Apalachia from at least Y=90 to Y=239[more information needed] (the highest points are reached by leaves from tall trees). There is no ceiling or floor, making a fall into the void almost certainly fatal. Apalachia does not have a daylight cycle, but has the same weather at the same time as the Overworld. Plants and trees spawn across Apalachia, similar to the Overworld but all with Apalachia's purple hue. Occasional lakes of Smoldering Tar can be found on the surface. Hostile mobs spawn regardless of the time in Apalachia.

Coordinates in Apalachia scale down 4:1 with the Overworld, meaning if a portal is formed in the Overworld at x=1000, z=1000 in the Overworld, it will take the player to x=250, z=250 in Apalachia, whereas if a portal is formed in Apalachia at x=1000, z=1000, it will take the player to x=4000, z=4000 in the Overworld. Locations in the Nether down up 1:2 with Apalachia coordinates, meaning if an Apalachia portal is formed in the Nether at x=1000, z=1000, it will take the player to x=2000,z=2000 in Apalachia. Portals to all other dimensions use the same coordinates, meaning if an Eden Portal is formed in Apalachia at x=1000, 1000, it will take the player to x=1000, z=1000 in Eden.

Most items and blocks in Apalachia function the same as they do in the Overworld, with a few notable exceptions:

  • Beds and respawn anchors cause an explosion 25% stronger than TNT and cause fires when one attempts to use them, as beds do in the Nether and respawn anchors in the Overworld. (Villagers, if somehow brought in, can still use beds safely).
  • Compasses in Apalachia spin around randomly.
  • Grass and leaves take on a purple color to match Apalachia.
  • Nether portals cannot be naturally created in Apalachia, though they will function if the /setblock or /fill commands are used to place them.

Terrain[]

Apalachia has only one biome, named after itself. Apalachia is composed of large floating land masses with occasional small islands. Compared to previous dimensions, Apalachia is more connected and more vertical, with some mountains extending over 30 blocks above the clouds. Most of the surface of Apalachia is covered in trees and plants. Underneath the surface lies Twilight Stone which extends to the bottom of the floating islands. Caves do not generate within Apalachia, though some terrain may generate in low, partly enclosed areas. Stone deposits of Smoldering Tar spawn occasionally on the surface, while veins of Apalachia Ore spawn under the surface of the Twilight stone.

  • 1.9: Overhauled terrain generation; Apalachia now has hills/mountains, is more connected and spawns Smoldering Tar on the surface instead of underground. Twilight dimensions no longer have daylight cycles.

  • The name "Apalachia" is likely derived from the Appalachian Mountains, a mountain range in North America.
